Once upon a time, there was a dog who slept in a manger, filled with hay, in a barn. The dog did not eat the hay, but he refused to let any other animals eat it either. One day, a hungry ox came to the barn and asked the dog if he could have some hay from the manger. The dog refused, even though he had no use for the hay.
